LLS HQ Residentials – Why We Do It

This week our sixth form sports coaches from Northern Ireland took a trip to LLS HQ. 2 nights in Liverpool was enough time for them to take in the sights between some thrilling activities.

Residential trips to LLS HQ allow our sports coaches to gain new experiences to improve them in all aspects. We want our students to become great at coaching sports. We know that great coaches are made through gaining an array of different experiences. Becoming a well rounded individual is one of the most important steps in becoming a successful coach.

Why?

Communication, patience, leadership, enthusiasm, and confidence.

Our residential trips are purposeful in trying to impart these qualities in our coaches. We offer these trips to all our centres once a year to instil these qualities in all of our students.

The activities are designed to engage our students and improve their coaching skills. Fostering a love of sport comes alongside engaging them with fun, new experiences and developing a love for coaching. They engage in a number of team-building activities put on by our staff, along with a variety of athletic activities.

They can spend a morning in a parkour training facility training athletics, spend a session with a personal trainer, or even an afternoon in the River Mersey at the Liverpool Watersports Center. This is all followed by time to explore the Pier Head and city centre. Time to themselves means they can enjoy the historic sites and attractions Liverpool has to offer.

In the end, these experiences are meaningful because of the memories and changes they impart on our students. Trips like this are less about the activities themselves and more about how they encourage our coaches to become better. They arrived in Liverpool to have fun, and they left with a deeper understanding of what it means to be a good coach.

These trips are a reminder that learning and growth can take place outside of the classroom. These trips change our students for the better. Coaching is about helping and changing others, and the way to become a great coach is centred around gaining new experiences on trips like these.
